What can go wrong

Defenses that align purely off "where's the tight end" get confused by tackle-over sets and misalign, giving the offense a free mismatch at the point of attack.

How we fix it

Teach every player, not just the coach, a simple pre-snap rule: count from the ball out both directions; more than 2 linemen one side of center = unbalanced, check HEAVY. Then rep the shift until it is automatic.

Coach detail

Front shift

"HEAVY" call plus the "NOC" rule. Strong Tackle bumps to a 5-technique-style shade, weak Tackle plays tighter (3-technique-style). Will typically gets an automatic backside edge/C-gap blitz to punish the numbers deficit on the away side.

Coverage

Free Safety slides toward the overload side for extra run support.

Gap changes vs base

  • Every gap letter is re-counted from the real (heavy-side) center, not the ball.
  • Will's contain job converts into a backside edge blitz.
